We run a small equipment hire service aimed at student and fringe theatre hirers.
Hirers should contact the Head Technician or the Production Manager to check availability of equipment and hire costs.

We prefer a week’s notice to quote and prepare your hire. Short notice hires can only be accommodated if staff are available to assist you.
- Hires are generally only available for collection or return between 10am and 5pm Monday to Friday.
- The hirer needs to seek instructions on where to go to collect or return equipment.
- We do not provide transport for equipment hire. Most hires are dispensed via the Union Theatre loading bay on Union road. Access to loading bay is via Gate 1 Tin Alley (intersection of Elgin and Swanston Streets), proceed 100m to the Union Road bollard gate at the left side road – press button on gate and state “Union Theatre Loading Bay Please” and you shall be let into the Union Road restricted section for 30 minutes loading and unloading. The Loading bay is clearly marked just 20m from the gate on the right. Please have someone stay with the vehicle as cars or other non-delivery looking vehicles may be booked for trespassing.
- Hire contracts will be signed and issued when the hire is collected and an invoice sent to the hirer once equipment is returned.
Please note: a deposit may be required for non Melbourne University Students.
