Role Descriptions

Subject Coordinators

These are tutors who have volunteered to write the specific subject booklets and will teach at least one class in that subject.

Applicants for this role must have a strong academic background as well as effective leadership and communication skills.

Subject/Focus Tutors

These are tutors who either tutor a class during the day (a maximum of three), or will undertake one on one focus tutoring on the 2nd floor of Union House.

Applicants for these subjects must be friendly and approachable with strong leadership and social skills. These attributes are essential as

This is a role that requires a large amount of interaction with the students. A good academic record is required.

Activities Coordinator

This role is for one or two tutors who have an interest in coordinating the activities/BBQs/workshops that will be run during the two weeks. Their duties will include the promotion of the activity, ensuring that all the required equipment is set-up, effectively monitoring it and also dealing with any changes that could occur in relation to these activities during the program.

Experience in activities coordination or relevant experience is preferred but not essential.

Applicants for this role must display strong organisational, communication and leadership skills.

Activities Team

These are additional tutors who would like to help out with activities but not coordinate them.

Their duties would include setup, clean up, promotion of activities and assisting the activities coordinator. A team of four tutors should be sufficient and if more is needed we shall seek help from the day tutors.

Welfare Officers

This role is for four tutors whose duties include ensuring that the welfare of the students is being taken care and also acting as a mediator for any grievances between students or tutors.

The selected candidates for this role must adhere to privacy and confidentiality guidelines and also have had experience in youth counselling or similar fields.

Zine Editors

This role is for at least two tutors, who are responsible for daily Zine publication as well as the final magazine at the end of the two weeks.

Applicants for this role must be familiar with Microsoft Publisher or equivalent programs and must understand the importance of adhering to strict deadlines.

Residential Coordinator

This is the role for one tutor whose responsibility is to coordinate meetings with the residential team. They are to be the primary contact for the directors and also the students before the program begins.

The residential coordinator is required in the office for certain enrolment procedures for the residential program. Experience in school camps or relevant experience is desired but not essential.

Applicants for this role must be creative and display strong organisational, communication and leadership skills.

Residential Team

This is a team of five tutors whose main responsibility is to look after the residential students. They are also responsible for the organisation and execution of residential activities.

Applicants must be strong team players and are able to respond well in situations where they are put under pressure.

Our main aim in filling these positions is to find a team of hardworking and dedicated tutors are friendly and approachable in nature.

The selection process for tutors will be based on a mixture of academic achievements, involvement in extra-curricular activities and interviews.

Incentives will also be offered to tutors including free summer school t-shirts, references and a certificate of participation.

Workshop Coordinator

If you have an idea for a workshop that you think will benefit the Summer School Program, then we’d LOVE to hear about it.

Subject related workshops can also be run through approval by subject coordinators.

Workshop coordinators will be responsible for the organisation and execution of the workshop. This role can be undertaken in conjunction with other roles or applicants can choose to only run workshops.

Group Leaders

This is an additional role during the SS program that involves daily meetings with a group of students passing on important information for the rest of the day. They will be required to mark attendance.
