STREAT have launched an exciting new partnership with MU Student Union Ltd to stop youth homelessness the delicious way at Melbourne University. Working with Herestudio Architects, STREAT have taken their street cafe idea to a whole new level serving both gourmet street food and fair trade, organic coffee from an innovative and architecturally-designed cafe featuring walls made from iconic red recycled milk crates. The result is visually spectacular.
STREAT is a social enterprise that provides food for your soul, and for your stomach! Originally inspired by hawker food in South-East Asia where incredible flavour is dished up from the most basic equipment, STREAT provides homeless youth with training and employment in hospitality. With an innovative and responsible social enterprise model, STREAT cafes are where the trainees hone their skills and get employment, along with generating the organisation’s revenue. 100% of profits go straight back to providing training and support for homeless and disadvantaged young people.
The Melbourne University Student Union STREAT cafe is now open in North Court and serving international street food with a twist, in the form of seasonal gourmet sandwiches. Locally roasted fair trade, organic coffee, a selection of muffins, pastries and cold drinks are also available for purchase. Open Monday through Friday from 8.30am-4pm.
