The duties of the Secretary are outlined in the Constitution. In short, they are to maintain records and make them accessible, liaise with MU Student Union Ltd regarding financial matters, act as secretary to the various decision making bodies of University of Melbourne Student Union Inc. and to be the publisher of material published by UMSU. UMSU Financial Regulations also require the Secretary to ensure that no payment is made which is not in accordance with the relevant approved budget.
This involves sending notice for meetings, making minutes available and dealing with procedural matters, e.g committee membership.
The Secretary is accountable directly to Students’ Council, the peak governing body of UMSU. He or she, like other office-bearers, is required to report at regular meetings of Students’ Council. These take place throughout semester one and two.
