I know, I know: A still-alive Elvis in a quiet country nursing home and his black friend, who is convinced that he is JFK, secretly stashed away by his enemies after his “assassination” back in the sixties, do battle with a reincarnated Egyptian Pharaoh. It sounds ridiculous doesn’t it? And it is. But it’s kinda fun too. Going for the knowing smile rather than the big belly laugh, this entertaining film pokes its tongue out at stardom, politics and horror movies. Bruce Campbell is great as The King and Ossie Davis is suitably conflicted and confused as JFK. There’s also a lethal flying beetle (or is it a cockroach?), a smoking nurse, and a shed full of secrets at the back, just waiting for a flame thrower. If your taste in comedy extends to things like “Dark Star”, you’ll probably enjoy this very much. (Illy)
