There are two important things to do before the day of your graduation. You will have received a letter from University of Melbourne Student Administration offering you a position in a graduation ceremony. The first thing you need to do is respond to this offer. Second, if you've decided to attend your ceremony, you'll need to book your academic dress at the Regalia Centre. All academic dress bookings should be made online at this site: you'll see a button at the top left of this page which will allow you to make your booking. When the Regalia Centre receives your booking, your academic dress will be prepared for you to collect on the day of your conferring ceremony. You will be fitted by our staff with the correct regalia at collection time.

Guest Tickets

You will receive three guest tickets when you pick up your seat allocation, after you have collected your regalia.

Extra Guest Tickets

Check the Student Admin website for information about the availability of any extra tickets for your graduation ceremony.

Academic Dress Requirements

You are required to wear the correct academic dress to your graduation ceremony. The University of Melbourne follows the Oxford University style of dress. Other codes of dress, including college gowns, are not acceptable. The correct style of bachelor gown is black, mid-calf in length and has no splits in the sleeves. If you plan to wear your own gown, please bring it to the Regalia Centre prior to the due date for booking academic dress to check if your gown is the correct style to avoid any problems on your graduation day.

Buying your Regalia

Instead of hiring your gown and faculty colours, you can also purchase your own set of academic dress from the Union Shop here at the University of Melbourne Student Union. Gowns are available from $225, hoods (faculty colours) from $85 and trenchers from $95.

The Union Shop stocks a small amount of academic dress, but most Regalia is made to order. Please place your order at least two weeks prior to the ceremony date, or for small items at least one week, to avoid disappointment. You will not be charged a hire cost for any item ordered or purchased at the time of your ceremony.

Refunds and Deferring your Booking

If you book your academic dress and are subsequently unable to attend your ceremony, a refund of the hire fee minus a $5 administration charge is available up to two weeks after the date of your ceremony. Alternatively, if you plan to graduate at a later date, you can transfer your payment without incurring any admin fee. To do this, contact the Regalia Centre and let them know that you plan to defer your payment.
