Hello! Ni Hao! Bonjour! Hola!

The Melbourne University Overseas Students’ Service (MUOSS) represents all international students at the University of Melbourne, including undergraduate, graduate, study abroad and exchange students. It is one of the largest international student organisations in Australia and is a department of the Student Union.

We look out for the welfare of these students on campus and the quality of education they receive. We also provide a referral service, peer support and organise activities and events to help international students navigate through life in Melbourne better.

To get involved with MUOSS or to find out what is next on the calendar, please visit our website or drop by the Overseas Students Lounge where our office is located.

It consists of five executive committee members, five directors and fifteen officers, all of whom collectively make up the MUOSS Central Committee. All 25 office bearers have voting rights in committee meetings and are elected into the positions as international student representatives during the MUOSS Annual General Elections.

MUOSS also has a few co-opted Office Bearers, as well as a strong network of Overseas Student Ambassadors.

MUOSS Welfare

The Education and Welfare department is the representative branch of the Melbourne University Overseas Students Service. Our aim is to educate international students about their rights with regards to the University and Australia in general, to ensure that students are getting quality education and can deal with the cultural diversity and differences in Melbourne. We also aim to increase the awareness and understanding of issues that concern the general well-being of international students.

Over the recent years we have been actively pursuing the following:

  • “Bookfest” that provides students an alternative to buy cheaper second-hand textbooks
  • “MUOSS Buddy Program” that helps new international students to make friends at university and interact with local students by facilitating mentoring program.
  • The “Student Experience Fair” that focuses on issues affecting international students in the university

The Education and Welfare department has also been active in university level meetings along with the President of MUOSS, in providing a strong voice in various committees, expressing the thoughts and situations of international students in such meetings. Hence, it is crucial that we constantly get feedback and opinions from the international students themselves so that we can better represent them.
