Library books which are overdue can now be renewed in a positive development that will make life a little easier for students.
So if a student were intending to renew a book, but was a day or two late, they can still do so. This however, won’t get them out of having to pay the library fine for being overdue.
There are a few conditions, relating to outstanding fines, holds and a maximum number of renewals.
Paying library fines may also become more convenient. The 2009 UMSU Secretary has been in touch with Library and Financial Operations staff about this issue and a solution is currently in the works. At present, a student who wants to pay a fine by cash has to charge a photocopy card and use that to pay the fine. However, it might soon be possible to integrate the payment of library fines into other existing University systems (e.g. Student Admin) which already handle cash payments so that students can easily deal with the unpleasant affair of library fines.
