Make a film for the fun of it! This National Campus Film Festival is a celebration of creativity and the films span all genres. Films are judged on their entertainment value and originality rather than their technical brilliance. Films entered are in the running for some great prizes.

National Tertiary Art Prize

Entries close: 29 August 2008. Notification of selection for National Final Exhibition first week of September 2008. Receipt of physical entries to National Final Exhibition by 26 September 2008. The National Tertiary Art Prize began in 1984 and remains the predominant national Tertiary Art Competition in Australia. The Art prize attempts to draw out talents which may remain largely hidden otherwise. So why not have a go! Painting /Works on paper/Printmaking (Must not exceed 1m square)

UMSU Portraiture Paint Off

12pm, Thursday 4 September, North Court, Union House. Student Union Members free, $20 for non members. Register at the Entertainment Office, third floor Union House. Bring your own subject and brushes, UMSU will supply the canvas, the acrylic paint, easels, stools and the atmosphere. Limited to the first 40 who register, with a short list of reserves. Win recycled prizes for ‘the most imaginative outfit’, ‘the most promising ensemblist’, ‘the hottest outfit’ (ski fashions), ‘the coolest suit’ (engineering could win this one), ‘the most off the planet’ (NASA) or ‘the student fashions of the future’ (based on the J. The Egg and Spoon Steeple Chase

12pm, Thursday 9 October, South Lawns. Student Union Members free, $20 for non members. Register at the Entertainment Office, third floor, Union House. This crazy mixture of the much-loved ‘egg and spoon race’ coupled with a Steeple Chase is guaranteed to delight the masses. You take an egg and spoon, throw in some obstacles (jumps, slime pools, a couple of harassing crocodiles and the odd trivia pit stops), to win a place in the final dash to victory.
