MICF: All of The Things!
Thursday, April 4 2013
Have you ever wondered what would happen if the better parts of Tumblr were turned into humans? All of the Things! is the answer.
Rachel Davis and Isabel Angus make up Grisabel and they put a nail gun through the confusion of growing up where “work-life balance” doesn’t even start to encompass what we expect of ourselves. And when it gets too much—dance break.
The hour disappears in a shower of glitter, angst and rap. Davis and Angus have a stellar chemistry that never becomes cruel. When they make fun of each other, it is articulate and actually fun. More than that, it’s goddamn funny. While Davis wonders how charity can fit into a creatively filling, well-paying job, Angus is more concise, “I don’t want to do anything that isn’t extremely fun always.”
Rachel and Isabel both come to the stage via the Monash Law Revue, and their double-act defies the trite stereotype that women can’t do silly. This combines the inane and relatable in a way that has me excited for their next show. All of the Things! has laid foundations—what I want to see next are the strange narratives and meta-plots that have brought fame (or infamy) to acts like Sammy J & Randy.
All of The Things! is at the Tuxedo Cat at 7:15 Mon-Sat and 6:15 Sun. Tickets here.
