International and postgraduate students are discriminated against in Victoira. We are denied public transport concession cards despite being students. We need to make Premier John Brumby hear our demand for this basic right of concession cards for all students!
This rally follows the success of the Fair Fares rally in semester 1, which got several hundred students in the city streets who marched to Parliament steps and presented the Victorian government with over 10,000 signatures calling for equal concession card rights for all students. The government has since denied to address the petition on a technicality, so this time around we’ve amended the petition, gathered more than 10,000 signatures and we’ll be ensuring that this time premier John Brumby and the Victorian government will hear us!
*Come to the peaceful protest rally with your fellow University of Melbourne students, at at 1:00 Wednesday 2nd outside the Graduate Centre (1888 Building), Grattan st.
We will then march to join students from many other universities and colleges at the rally at State Library at 2pm.*
