The UMSU Student Representative Network (SRN) is a collection of students committed to representing student rights and needs. We participate actively in university governance as student reps to university committees, decision making bodies and working groups.

Nominations to be a student representative on University governance bodies are currently being accepted by the University of Melbourne Student Union (UMSU) from all students. Nominations close on 5pm, Friday 20 March.

UMSU representatives voice student concerns and perspectives on many different University committees and play an active part in shaping the future of Melbourne University. By becoming an UMSU representative you will also become a part of the Student Representative Network (SRN) that provides training and support to UMSU representatives. SRN provides a forum and a network for all student representatives to come together to collaborate, support each other, and collectively be one voice for students across the University.

To be an UMSU representative you must demonstrate a keen interest in the welfare of your peers. Previous involvement in student and community organisations or interest in the particular field of chosen committee is recommended but not essential. Reliability and communication skills will be favoured. If you are interested and not yet a UMSU member, it is recommended that you join, as preference will be given to those who are members of UMSU.

This opportunity will allow you to develop your own skills -- including policy development, governance experience, public speaking, lobbying and other leadership qualities. Being a student representative will give you an insight into the governance of the University and into how committees operate.

All student representatives will be trained in the procedures of the University and how to effectively communicate student concerns. Representatives will be expected to regularly report back to the Student Council of UMSU.

Application forms and more information are available on this website. They can be returned to the Education (Academic Affairs) Office on the First Floor of Union House, or electronically to educationacademic@union.unimelb.edu.au.
