Melbourne University Arabic Culture Club

Arabic culture is one of the most colourful in the world. The African, European and Asian continents intersect at what is known as the Arabic world, where you can find some of the most exotic cuisines, music, movies and history and spirituality.

Imagine yourself surrounded by people who come from this corner of the world, namely the Middle East. Established in 1999, the Melbourne University Arabic Culture Club (MUACC) has rapidly developed into a tremendous insight into the various aspects of Arabic heritage. With over 200 members, MUACC offers a journey of experience into all dimensions of Arabic culture to fellow students of various backgrounds. Some of our members were born overseas, while others are first or second generation Australians, Arabic and non-Arabic, all coming together to celebrate, share and communicate features of this mesmerising culture.

MUACC aims to promote Arabic culture. MUACC members are all about having a great time, enjoying and exploring both of our worlds and most importantly, sharing it with others. Social events such as dinners, monthly on-campus barbeques and day trips and balls are essential in maintaining a friendly, non-politically based club, where a smorgasbord of races and personalities can meet and party.

Another of our important objectives is education. Through lectures and seminars, MUACC intends on sharing our wealth of knowledge about the Arab world with those who are interested.

Everybody, Arabic and non-Arabic, is welcome to join the club and enjoy the experience.

Chinese Culture Society

The Chinese Culture Society (CCS) aims to promote and hence consolidate traditional Chinese Culture within the university. A secondary goal of CCS is to act as a focal point, both social and cultural for students.

In addition, CCS provides opportunities for debate on issues that will shape Chinese Culture in the future. CCS has been the heart of the Chinese Groups (C-Groups), which is an alliance of organizations. To extend this aim further, CCS therefore should also act as the representative body for Chinese students (both international and local) both within and outside the university. This means specifically to promote an ethos of forging links with organizations with similar ends.

To achieve these ends, the club aims to:

  • Organise events that can both incite interest in the student body and promote and expose participants to Chinese Culture.
  • Encourage participation in these events.
  • Make university life more colourful for all through our presence and participation in university life.
  • Present a welcoming front to students, and to cater for their needs in a social and cultural sense by organising events or running programs of interest to them.
  • Establish cordial relations with other international and cultural groups within university, and in other universities.
  • Establish good relations with synergetic organisations outside of uni, with the aim of allowing members access to benefits provided by these organizations.

Melbourne University Italian Club

The Melbourne University Italian Club is the most social club around campus. Through a variety of social activities it promotes Italian culture at the University. The many pizza lunches, film screenings and coffee rendezvous offer valuable opportunities to practice and acquire a better understanding of the language. There is always the likelihood to become acquainted with native speakers. The club is dedicated to nurturing of the passion of Italy and all things Italian, the principal reason for our partnerships with the many businesses located on Lygon Street (Otherwise know as little Italy). Let us not forget the fun to be had whilst attending the social activities. Taking the ball as an example, the events organized are a great way to meet new people or to have an enjoyable time with your friends. Therefore if there is one club to join this year it most certainly is the Melbourne University Italian Club.

And at the same time, enjoy the plentiful opportunities to meet new friends from all over the world. We provide excellent services for the members and are highly active in organising activities for them.

The common activities that we usually organise include bubble tea sessions, barbeques, go-karting, ski-trip, ball and there are many others. On top of that, we also organise a few conferences for the students to let them know about their future prospects in Singapore and other countries as well.

Once again, SSS is open for all students, regardless of their nationalities, and is a non-profit club that serves the student population to meet their needs.

Sri Lankan Students’ Association

The Melbourne University Sri Lankan Students’ Association (MUSLSA) is one of the university’s most popular and active social clubs. We have a broad membership base focussed around students of a Sri Lankan or sub-continental background. MUSLSA prides itself on the quality of the events it organises for its members.

The premiere event on the MUSLSA calendar is our annual Serendib Ball. Past years have seen it held in such opulent surrounds as the Plaza Ballroom and the Grand Hyatt Ballroom. Perhaps the most spectacular of all university balls, Serendib is a must attend.

A relatively recent addition to our list of events—and one that is rapidly growing in popularity—is our annual charity fundraiser theatrical production. Each year, the play brings together students from universities around Melbourne.

Other favourites include our Sports Day and our Trivia Night, both regularly attracting crowds from all year levels. On top of our major events, we also organise several free lunches throughout the year, providing yet more opportunities for our members to socialise.

MUSLSA provides a fantastic opportunity for students to meet and mingle with their fellow students. If you’re interested in finding out more about the club, our events or would like to become a member, please contact us.
