Get involved at Uni. The Advocacy Service offers the opportunity for students to work with students for students. Consider volunteering for the Peer Support Program or the Exam Support Stall. Volunteers are needed from November to February, and in June and July.

Peer Support Program

The Student Union has developed a program through which students are trained to provide support to students who are called to a Progress Committee meeting. Meetings are held during the winter and summer vacations, after the exams and release of results. Training is provided. More information here

Exam Support Stall

Since 2006, volunteers and staff have provided information, advice, referral and support to students at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton during the exam period (2-3 weeks in both June and November). Students are invited to join student representatives and Advocacy staff as volunteers. The stall is run by the Education (Academic Affairs) Officers, with support from the Advocacy Service.

The aim of the stall is to support students and promote the services and benefits offered by the Union.

The stall also stall sells water, pens, lollies and tissues for a nominal fee to non-members, with either discounts or give-aways for members. Limited numbers of exam necessities such as calculators may also be available for loan in case of emergency.

As a volunteer, you will answer a range of questions about, for example, the location of facilities, special consideration and academic misconduct. You may refer students to Union and University services such as the Advocacy Service and University health and wellbeing services.

You can volunteer to do one or more three hour shifts.

You will be well supported. Usually you will work in pairs, and a resource and information guide is available at the marquee for you to consult.
