Every semester, following the official release of results, a large number of students are invited to discuss their academic progress with the Course Unsatisfactory Progress Committee (CUPC). In order to meet student demand for assistance in relation to this process, the Advocacy Service instigated the Peer Support Program. This allows student volunteers to undertake a support function for their peers throughout this often stressful time of semester.

The role of a Peer Supporter is limited, but critical, as they are there to support students during the meeting and provide appropriate referrals to services designed to assist the student in an ongoing capacity, such as the Advocacy Service and other Student Services.

If you have been invited to a CUPC meeting, a Peer Supporter from outside of your Faculty/School can take you through what to expect at the meeting, attend with you as a support person and take notes if appropriate, then debrief with you afterwards or connect you with other support services available at the University.

This program is not available in all Faculties or Schools, so if you have been invited to meet the CUPC and want to know if there will be a Peer available to support you, please call us on 8344 6546 or email us via suashelp[at]union.unimelb.edu.au.

Our Peers are supported by Advocacy staff at all times and do not act as Advocates at any time. They are trained in and bound by the Advocacy Service’s Confidentiality Policy and relevant privacy legislation.
