Advocacy (ăd’və-kə-sē) 1. giving aid to a cause or position; 2. support for people who are thought likely to be disregarded or to have difficulty in gaining attention, so that their opinion is listened to.
The Student Union Advocacy Service (SUAS) offers independent information, advocacy and referral across a range of academic and administrative issues to all students at the University of Melbourne.
Both undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to use this free and confidential advocacy and support service. Individual support from an advocate is available by appointment.
Making an appointment
Please contact the Student Services Officer between 9am – 5pm, Monday to Friday, either in person (Third Floor, Union House) or by phoning 8344 6546.
If the phone is not answered, please leave a brief message and we will return your call as soon as possible. You may also request appointments by email.
We close for some public holidays and over the Christmas/New Year break.
Appointments are usually for 30 minutes, so please be on time. If relevant, bring documents to your appointment (letters that your faculty have sent you, copies of emails, and/or support documents from a doctor or counsellor).
Email enquiry
If you are unable to come to the office or to call us, email your enquiry to suashelp(at)union.unimelb.edu.au.
Support at Southbank
Advocacy Service staff are available to meet with students who are based at Southbank campus (Faculty of VCA and MCM). To make an appointment please contact the Advocacy Service by email or telephone.
